‘Resurgence’: Adelon’s Relentless Onslaught of Extreme Metal

Progressive Technical Death Metal from Switzerland Adelon releases its very aggressive, four track EP Resurgence on June 21.

It’s fast, and the vocals are the throaty snarls of some netherworld beast. The EP begins with Fleshless Vertebrae; intro sweeping into an unflinching acceleration of energy. Rhythms roller coaster back and forth throughout the song and the vocals get an injection of machine-driven sound. Monisme has a more stable rhythm, but still very progressive. The lyrics are akin to an abstract yearning for resurrection and the eternal power of light.

Crimson Luminescence gets a bit darker, as that flicker of light shows its truer, cimmerian

nature and the wandering soul in question falls into despair. The song beats the life out of you in the beginning with heavy and rapid drums, moving the sonic atmosphere angrily towards a merciless end. The last track, Cycles, starts with a much more palatable rhythm. It’s a truly progressive and technical piece, with brief moments of clarity. The guitar solos in these songs are very nice; not over the top, and fitting. A breath of fresh air, considering the tendency in metal to try hitting too many notes and end up only impressing other guitarists.

Resurgence is not for the weak listener. It’s raw, brutal, and so rhythmically progressive it will appeal to all the heavy metal beat nerds out there who want sheer, ruthless turbulence. Produced by Alex Sedin and Adelon, recorded by Quentin Landolt, and mixed and mastered by Alex Sedin.
