Punk's Not Dead, It's Just Really Upset: Right On, Kid! Drops New Record

In the recent revival of emo pop-punk, Albuquerque based Right On, Kid! just released Carry What You Need, a five track EP last month. It’s keeping with the current midwest emo revival, complete with confessional lyrics and sparkly angst. The new album is reminiscent of Harpoon, The Whale and The Story So Far

Emo might be a nostalgic word from 2005, but new fans of the modernized era will be delighted with Carry What You Need. The genre is no longer sitting alone with its black nails and eye covering hair. It’s evolved into something a little punkier. It begins with DREAM EATER! capturing the difficulties of “tuning in” to other people’s feelings. To Have And Have Not deals with unexpected loss, and Bad Feeling, a lyrical dive into “...that feeling you get when you wake up in the morning with no motivation to keep yourself together”. Carrying on, there’s Sterling; it’s about staying connected to someone at a long distance. The EP ends with a contemplative realization of growing older and taking note of mortality.

Right On, Kid! is Zach Rose on lead vocals, Nick Encinias - guitar and vocals, RJ Butler on lead guitar, Matt Jaramillo on bass, and Eli Shinn on drums.
