A New Wave of British Thrash Metal: Interview with Thrasherwolf

From London, England, Thrasherwolf has resurrected again to unleash their newest LP Inside The Sickened Mind this October. Recorded with Andy Brook (Brook Studios), who’s produced legendary artists such as Status Quo and punk rockers Subhumans, and mastered by Patrick W Engel (Candlemass, Destruction and Sodom), it all comes together exquisitely. This amazing production team has sharpened up Thrasherwolf’s sound into a weapon of destruction that is unbelievably sharp and heavy.

Inside The Sickened Mind brings back the nostalgic flavor of old school contenders like Kreator and Exodus; that tempting thrash beat classic metal lovers are going to find unrighteously pleasurable.

The artwork is an added charm to Inside The Sickened Mind. “Frank” the mascot is represented in vibrant detail, illustrated by Andrei Bouzikov, who has created nonpareil artworks for the likes of Municipal Waste, Nervosa and Autopsy. Overall, Thrasherwolf’s new album is a strong and inspiring treasure, roused by the spirit of 80s thrash and creating that high octane energy true metalheads live for.

The album is slated for a special cassette edition release in November via Vicious Witch Records. In the meantime, we spoke with guitarist Jack Saunders:

This is your second full length album- how has this whole experience evolved from your debut?

We used the same recording engineer as the first album, but as guitarists we were more experienced and knew what more to expect from the process.

We also used much better amps to record and had the pleasure of having Zaq and Rai recording alongside us. Something we didn’t have in the first album.

How is the current thrash metal scene in London? (I’m really happy to see a new thrash generation coming up again)

Thrash in London is thriving. I personally enjoy how there are so many thrash bands in London and it doesn’t really feel like competition; more like a massive bunch of mates doing what they love!

Are there any particular songs on the new record that you’re especially proud of or excited for fans to hear?

GBH, the first single, is one of my favourite songs; it always feels so fun to play live. We also have a second metal ballad on the album… I’m hoping that will appeal to a lot of people!

Besides music, what other interests or hobbies do you have as a band? I think I read somewhere that you were like—a rocket scientist or something…

I have a masters degree in aerospace engineering and design satellites for a living, very different from band responsibilities.

As a band we are all unique individuals, myself and Dan like to game (although very different genres of games!).

There is also Zaq, who in his free time enjoys snooker and racing.

Line-up:
Daniel Lucas – Guitars/Vocals
Jack Saunders – Guitars
Raimonds Dobelis – Bass
Zaq Razaq – Drums
