Sunmancer Resurrects Metalcore’s Golden Age
Atlanta's rising metalcore outfit Sunmancer is breathing new life into the early 2000s sound with their latest single "Lower Cavalier," a visceral exploration of disintegrating connections that serves as a spiritual successor to their debut EP's track "Revolver."
Released on November 1st, "Lower Cavalier" is a sonic sledgehammer that previews the band's upcoming album, scheduled for early 2025. Following their debut EP "Nothing Ever Happens," Sunmancer demonstrates metalcore's most intense elements—giving us a track that feels both nostalgic and freshly urgent.
Lower Cavalier is rough, heavy, and tight. Vocally, the track is a dynamic battle between scream-o intensity and melodic harmony, creating that good narrative tension metalcore is known for. Rhythmically, the song is relentless—weighty and explosively fast. The guitars accomodate those thick, aggressive textures that satisfy the most primal musical cravings.
Formed in 2022 by brothers Kyle (guitar) and Justin Mazlik (vocals), alongside guitarist Jeremy Harlan and bassist Dan Nelson, Sunmancer has quickly established themselves as a force in the southern metal scene. As newcomers, they’re already making a stir. Mixed and mastered by Patrick Snyder, "Lower Cavalier" follows their previous singles "Chasm Darkly" and "Doom Temple."
The band is set to play upcoming shows at Culture Shock in Atlanta this January, plus performances in Panama City, Florida, and Greenville, South Carolina. For those mourning the golden era of metalcore, Sunmancer offers a dominant resurrection—proving that the genre's spirit is still burning bright.
