"Our biggest discipline is relying on each other and not listening to the outside world; trusting each other, communicating our feelings with one another, and just keeping it authentic and real with each other. Because before we are artists we are sisters."

Memphis-based trio KARMA continues to make waves in the music industry with their latest release "SIS (She's Something)," showcasing their signature blend of R&B and hip-hop in a visually striking music video that drops today. The track serves as the lead single from their EP of the same name.

Composed of powerhouse performers Keymah Renee (Key), KB, and Miesha MonRoe (MiiMii), KARMA has spent the last decade building a reputation for their dynamic performances and meaningful content. The release of "SIS" marks another milestone in their ever-evolving artistic journey, demonstrating their growth as musically diverse artists. Their story is one of both artistic growth and sisterly bonds strengthened through years of creating together:

ELEVAR: You guys sound wonderful. Tell me about your inspirations and your self-discipline as you've evolved with your music- you've been doing this for how long now, 10 years?

KARMA: THANK YOU sooo much! Now the last part of your question is tricky so we will work backwards... That’s a great question. We actually have not been doing this for 10 years. We’ve actually been in a group for 15 years, but in that 15 years there’s been a lot of artist development. We’ve been in and out of Boot Camp; we had to be developed from singing to writing to performing on stage... then writing to etiquette training, mic training, public speaking... you name it, so yeah. We’ve been together and have been friends for 15 years, but this is our first year actually releasing original music. All the years before we just covered other peoples music, building our brand through trial and error and trying to find our image, our style, what we liked, and now that we’re old enough to know who we are now, we can present ourselves to the world the way we want. (That was a long way of answering the last part of the question, haha! So now we’ll go back to beginning 😂 )
Inspirations? We are inspired by any artist with the nerve to put themselves out there and share their creativity with others. That means anyone who can take their art and craft and are willing to share it with the world, knowing that just being you may make people want to criticize you. We’re inspired by courage and dedication and willpower and those individuals that we’ve seen that are so self-motivated—like you don’t need someone else to tell you to get up and do what you love to do. Those are things that inspire us. Now, musically, that would be independent artists, because we are up against it all just to break through the noise to be seen and heard. We're inspired by signed artists—once you are signed, you have a whole different set of challenges. Now it's time to fight and claw your right to stay. We respect that getting to the top is hard and staying on top is even harder. We’re just really driven by watching people do this with love and putting themselves on the chopping block, just to share a piece of themselves and their passion with others.

As far as discipline, that's a good question too. We'd say staying focused is probably one of the hardest disciplines that we have; especially when it’s three people, because you’re dealing with different egos and personalities and families and friends and a lot of outside distractions—people getting in your ear, telling you you’re the better of the group, or you’re the worst of the group, or critics picking you apart. Even the producers play a big big role in your self-esteem, so we would say our biggest discipline is relying on each other and not listening to the outside world; trusting each other, communicating our feelings with one another, and just keeping it authentic and real with each other. Because before we are artists we are sisters.

Who's involved in the making of your new music video SIS (She's Something)? What was the concept behind the visuals and everything?

Now, we love talking about our team as far as the concept of SIS (She’s Something). It was a collective effort between our Team. Our manger/momager (Temmora Williams-Levy) created our own Studio for recording. We record our music in the “Pink” room. Our recording studio is all pink!

She also owns her own Film company with her our family. It’s a family owned business called The Factory & CDE Films. Us and our Momager wrote the treatment and did the location scouting. Our Momager did all of wardrobe we did makeup and hair ourselves. MiiMii big brother is the head cinematographer and head head editor, Momma T or Mrs.T (Momager) was the director. We had 2 cinematographers, which was G-Cove (MiiMii big brother) and Camera Gawd (MiiMii God brother). We had three editors; Dr. Levy (MiiMii Daddy), G-Cove and Camera Gawd. One behind the scenes cinematographer/editor, Martavious “Chop” Martin (MiiMii God brother), and one set photographer, Fulton (we call him uncle Fulton). The concept behind the video was we wanted to bring to life to the fact that there are a lot of women out here that are having to do manly things just to keep food on the table. It’s not that we want to be independent and lonely, but sometimes a lot of the things that women do go unappreciated and we wanted to show that there are women going that extra mile and not complaining, just getting the job done. They deserve to be respected for what they do. So on the video you’ll see plumbers, construction workers, female mechanics— just showing that we don’t mind doing what we gotta do to get the bag, just want to be respected for it.

What do you guys enjoy when you're not singing or making video shorts?

The things we enjoy the most would be spending time with family and friends. Laughing, traveling... our number one most enjoyable thing to do is perform. We know that is sooo cliché, lol! 😂 But it’s the truth. The stage is our playground, so we go there to just leave it all on the stage! 😂 Our life is music. We are together all the time, so while we are together we try to be creative—even if we’re not trying to be creative. We end up being creative and shooting content and sharing our life with the world. It's natural. This is our every day life, so outside of doing music—we do more music! lol 😂

Where can people find and buy your EP- SIS?

SIS is just the beginning for us. Each song it’s a personal ride with us. It will help you to better get to know us because the songs are all personal life experiences for us. We are just starting our journey and we would truly like to take you all on this ride with us! We release a new single every 60 days, and we have our Christmas single “Under The Mistletoe” releasing on Nov 15th. It’s a very modern, yet old school Christmas single to set the tone for the holiday that we want you all to add to your personal Christmas playlist. This is all new for us and we want to share this time in our life with anyone open to taking a journey with us. If you are a woman, then you are our SIS (CIS if you are a man) If so, then we want to be your Sis.
