Honoring A Mother’s Memory Through Music

Swiss musician Fantin Reichler (The Kompressor Experiment, Méandre) releases Médée under the project name DRLCT on May 31. It’s a full length symphonic dedication to his mother, who would succumb to Cancer in September of 2022.

Each track tells the story of disbelief and pain over the course of her three year battle, and leaves us with a beautiful lament that will eternally honor the strength and compassion of a gracious human being. The album consists of four extended tracks; playing time reaching 40 minutes.

“In order to cope with her brutal death, I started writing a lot of music, just to have a purpose, something to pour my sparse energy in”, recounts Reichler.

Dark, cascading guitars start off Asunder, a beautifully played and terrifyingly emotional fall into heartache. Un Jour En Octobre (One Day In October) is a darker post rock sound, bringing a tortured feeling to the mix; it was inspired by the news of the illness’s aggression. Flow Your Tears, That Bluebird Said is a ballad representing the acceptance of what is coming and a yearning for the end of a very long, painful fight. Finally, Interlinked takes us through her last advances to embrace the inevitable. The ending of this song is quite emotional.

It’s truly a beautiful musical treasure that recognizes and undertakes the more somber side of the human journey.
